Long Hunter State Park, Hermitage, TN, Davidson County, 11/19/08
Saw 13 Sandhill Cranes near the walking bridge over Couchville Lake about 4:30
p.m.. I heard them before I saw them. Apparently they had been on the bank
near the shoreline because when I first saw them they were ascending from that
area. They circled overheard, disappeared for a bit, but then returned and
circled over the same area -- flying very low to the ground. They left (for
several minutes) then came back yet a third time. I assume it was the same
flock because I counted 13 each time. Heard their calls once more after sunset
but couldn't see them anymore.
