[TN-Bird] Sandhill Cranes over Cumberland Co. and Purple Finches

This afternoon (Monday, Oct. 29) four flocks of Sandhill Cranes flew over my
place in southern Cumberland County between 3:30 and 5 PM. The first flock
was heard but not seen, the second flock had 39 birds, the next had 20
birds, and the last was estimated at 70 birds. All that I saw were going
southeast (perhaps in time to get to Hiwassee WMA by evening). These were my
first for the season.

While I've been seeing Purple Finches for over a week, they were notably
common this morning, with an estimated 14 found in 3 hours of birding around
the house--some flying over giving call notes, some landing in trees and
singing, and a couple down in the brush with the sparrows.
