Tn-birders........... Sandhill Cranes seen migrating in the area of Byrdstown, TN, Pickett County this season. Most of these were seen over our house. Nov. 6...........12, First report for the season. Nov 11..........26 Nov 14..........16, "WHOOPING CRANES"....brag,brag. Nov 18.............7, heard 2 more large groups of Sandhill Cranes. Nov 20.........110 Nov 24...........46 Nov 30.........220+ Dec 1.........300+, at 8:30 A.M.--350+ at 9:05 A.M.----50+ at 3:30 P.M. Dec 2........ 65, flying south, up the river beside our house--low enough to see their backs. Probably spent the night on the mudflats as we had heard them go down behind the bluff just north of our house the night before. Their wild call never fails to give me an emotional stir.
