I went out yesterday to Lytle Creek Road (off Dilton Mankin Road on the
DeLorme) and was able to relocate 2 Scissortail Flycatchers, which are
undoubtedly nesting in the area. One was at 3310 and one at 3410. They like
to sit on the wires, and if not seen on the first pass, a return look might be
successful.
One singing Lark Sparrow (male?) was seen in the large field at the junction
of Patterson Hill Road with Rocky Hill Road in N Rutherford County. It was in
the large tree on PH Road, and the birds are likely nesting somewhere in the
field on the ground.
I was unsuccessful in relocating the Bewick's Wren pair on Alsup Mill Road. I
did run into the farm owner (1133) and he was familiar with the birds and told
me they had nested in an old outhouse behind his home. The locals call them
"Ginny Wrens" short for Virginia Wren, but this pair seems to be gone. Could
it be a predator (cat?), I can't believe they would have left without some
disaster. If I relocate them or another pair I will post, this bird seems to
be on the way out around here.
