[TN-Bird] Rufous hummingbird recaptures

Hi Folks
I've been banding wintering hummingbirds the last couple of years and this
winter season seems to have gotten off to slow start to me. However, I thought
I would share some of the return birds that hosts have contacted me about.
There is a rufous hummingbird wintering near Norris, in Anderson Co. and this
is the fourth year that the bird has returned. She arrives around the 19th of
August and departs the end of March each year. Another hummingbird is south of
Sparta in VanBuren Co. I banded a rufous at the hosts home last year and I'm
scheduled to catch it next week and confirm the band or if I'm lucky band a new
bird. On Monday 11/19 I recaptured a rufous that I had banded in 2006 that
returned to the same home near Jonesborough in Washington Co. where I banded
it. I also recaptured a rufous in Speedwell, Claiborne Co. on Tuesday 11/20
that also returned to the home where I banded it. Both birds that I recaptured
were in excellent feather, had a bit of fat on their little bodies and had a
good weight. I think it is pretty neat to have birds return like this. Hope
everyone has a good Thanksgiving.
