Willie made his first check to see if there was still sugar water in the
feeder at 6:30 a.m. and then went to the bare bush to the left and sat
in the open before returning again for long drinks. He continues to
keep us puzzled about where he spends the night. We've tried to follow
him as he makes his last feeder visit in the afternoon but have never
been able to see his final destination. His sleeping place must be
really good shelter because on rainy days he is never wet when he makes
his first appearance. I wish each of you could see his exuberance when
he makes his morning appearance. We're probably reading too much into
it, but he flips up that little tail as if he is saying "hallelujah,
that good tasting stuff is still there". And I wish you could see how
stunningly beautiful he is as he zooms into the light out of the morning
darkness.
We were overwhelmed by the number of people who emailed yesterday to ask
us to continue posting about Willie each day. Our purpose in reporting
each day was to share this little beauty and so many wrote about how he
has become a part of your lives as he has ours. We won't try to reply
to all the emails individually but we thank you so much for the kind
words of encouragement. Seeing him each day has been a special time in
our lives and adding birding friends has made it even more special. I
wish Willie could read his "fan mail" but then his little head would
probably become as big as his tummy.
