The recent freeze has most certainly affected the food supply for the
grosbeaks. This morning I have counted 19 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks fighting
the Cowbirds for food at my feeders. In the nine years we have lived outside
of Smithville the most grosbeaks that we have ever seen at once was four.
What a beautiful sight!
Needless to say the lack of food supply has brought in five squirrels,
another all time high, and a Chipmunk. Then gleaning in a bush close to the
window was a Blue-winged Warbler.
