[TN-Bird] Roane Co. yard birds

SPRING IS OFFICIALLY HERE! "My" Scarlet tanager showed up this morning, in his
usual tree, singing his little throat out. Is it just me, or did the tulip
poplars bloom several days earlier this year than last?
Had a Black-throated green warbler yesterday, along with a Blue-headed vireo.
Wednesday morning, I stepped out on my porch and heard a Red-eyed vireo. And I
still have a Wood thrush, calloo callay! Such a wonderful sound! I'm still
hoping for a Rose-breasted grosbeak to pass through.

I really miss feeding the birds but there's no way I can do it now that I have
so many cats; I want to the young'uns to hunt rodents (which they are), not
birds (which they do not seem to be). The treetops are full of wobblers and
other migrants, so that will have to suffice. This year's battle will be to
encourage my neighbor to discourage the starlings that colonized his yard last
year. I've already seen more starlings this spring than in the past 10 years.
We've always had a good bluebird population and I hope to convince him to help
keep it that way.

Still have a red-shouldered hawk hunting in my yard. This is the first year
I've had one showing up so routinely.

Also: a friend right in the heart of Kingston had an immature or female Harrier
land on his deck railing last week!

Have a good weekend and happy bird days to you.
