I spent a short afternoon yesterday (Sun. 2/24/08) up at Reelfoot Lake (Lake
County) in Northwest Tennessee. I saw a total of at least 8 different Bald
eagles including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years, but likely a total of at least 12 in
the area most likely.
--Of note, were the 162 American White Pelicans (although they could have been
Canadian but I couldn't tell in their accents, aye!) at the end of Walnut log
road area where they usually hang out but not usually in these numbers.
--otherwise the usual awsome waterfowl species were seen, but of note were 2
Greater Yellowlegs on the tn/ky border on the eastern side of the lake.
--many Barred owls seen after looking carefully for them late in the afternoon.
--I didn't try hard for LeConte's nor American Tree sparrows though, but I will
in a few weeks.
--Meanwhile, I'm going to go study my Dominican Republic birds which I will be
seeing in exactly one week while I'm smoking a nice D.R. cigar while on
vacation.
