I actually managed to get in some birding for the first time in a long time. Fortunately it was at Reelfoot Lake SP where I was for a meeting earlier this week. In a couple morning walks (on Tuesday and Wednesday) on the Air Park Inn trail, I tallied some nice migrants (well most were just exciting since I haven't seen birds thru binocs much lately). Highlights were: numerous singing White-eyed Vireos, Eastern Wood-pewees, and Acadian Flycatchers (young males learning their songs??) Magnolia Warbler Gray catbirds Ovenbirds (many) Rose-breasted Grosbeak (many) Black-and White warblers (singing as well) probable Black-billed Cuckoo CONNECTICUT WARBLER (sang many times both mornings from the same spot, but never saw it) Last week at my office in Nashville, I had 3 Coopers hawks chasing each other around. They all perched and didn't care that I was pretty close. 2 adults and one juvenile made up the group. One adult kept trying to show off its (her I think compared to the small juv which I guess was a male) skills at trying to perch on this impossible perch, which it could rarely stand on. Really strange behavior and quite amusing. Neat nonetheless. Cheers, Scott State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
