I don't think I've ever overslept when going for a state bird, until today.
Luckily I still woke up pretty early, and the bird didn't mind waiting! I
arrived at Betsy Russell's house at about 09:30, and Damien Simbeck had the
bird pointed for me; I had it within 10 seconds of pulling in the driveway.
Damien left shortly afterwards, and I stayed until a little after 11:00. The
birds were pretty flight today, with everything clearing out several times for
15-20 minutes at a time. I never saw an accipiter, but that looked like what
was going on.

I only saw the Redpoll use the feeder twice while I was there, my observations
were primarily in the wisteria tangle just beside the carport. The Redpoll
tended to stay in the interior of the tangle, so it can be tough to find even
when it's there. There are a lot of birds in the area, and the house bind
Bill's Moms house has a feeding station as well, which was also getting a lot
of use. If you get there and don't see the bird immediately, I always picked it
up initially in the wisteria.

Once again, thanks to Bill for finding this bird and getting the word out so
fast, and his Mom for letting birders from all over the State hang out in her
driveway! I have wanted a Redpoll in TN for a long time. I expected to have to
drive farther when the time came, and would have never thought I'd be in
short-sleeves when I got it.

I've posted some decent images in a new gallery:

Good Birding!!
