Douglas Lake, Cocke county, 7/18/09, 1-4 PM, by canoe
Lake elevation: 991 ft.
Not much shorebird real estate available, just a narrow strip of muddy
shoreline about 100 yards long long at the Holt Town Rd. inlet, but a
few migrants managed to find it.
We saw & heard green herons all along the way to & from the coal
tipple, along with the ususal wood ducks, great egrets, ospreys, and
double-crested cormorants.
Partial list:
Little blue heron (1 imm.)
Green heron (ca. 20)
Killdeer (52)
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary sandpiper (4)
Spotted sandpiper (3)
Least sandpiper (9 adults)
Pectoral sandpiper (2)
