TN-Birders,
My wife, Dollyann Myers, Frank Bills and his wife Sharon Bostick, and I went to
Rankin Bottoms in Cocke County today about 3-5 p.m. We got great looks at the
American Avocet at the end of the usually submerged road at what they are
calling the Gate Pond. Also there were about 30 Lesser yellowlegs and about 20
Stilt Sandpipers. While checking out the rest of the area, we managed to find a
couple of Sanderlings and a lone Willet. Nothing else out of the ordinary was
noted.
Before we got to Rankin Bottoms, we briefly checked out the area where the
Mottled Duck had been being spotted and could NOT locate it. This is near the
north end of the 25E bridge on the Jefferson/Cocke county line.
Great birding,
Ron Hoff
