Rankin Bottoms, Cocke County, 3/26/09
By car, 12-2 PM; Douglas Lake elevation: 972.2 ft (beginning to flood
into the bottoms)
Cliff swallow numbers at Rankin Bridge are growing. >> We spotted 2
more occupied osprey nests (near the mouth of McCowan Creek, and on a
railroad microwave tower on Industrial Rd.).
>>> There are 6 active Great Blue Heron nests in the treetops on a
ridge about 1/2 mile upstream from the Leadvale boat launch.

Black vulture (35)
Osprey (8)
Bald eagle (2 immature)
Tree swallow (80+0
Cliff swallow (60+)
Barn swallow
Yellow-rumped warbler (2)
