Radnor Lake State Natural Area Nashville-Davidson Co., TN 23 April 2007 - This morning at Radnor Lake I saw 30+ PALM WARBLERS. They were everywhere along the Lake Trail and on the South Lake Trail-on the ground, at mid levels and at higher levels. Most were western subspecies, but a few were quite yellow. If I wasn't sure of the song of the Palm Warbler, I am now as most were singing as well. At the first bridge after the spillway along the Lake Trail a group of Palm Warblers was splashing in the little creek. When I got my binoculars on them, I realized that one of them was not one of them--it was a NASHVILLE WARBLER. I spent almost ten minutes watching it splash and bathe until it was a soaking mess. Finally, it hopped up on a branch, shook itself off and flew back into the brush. A minute later, I thought I heard a PRAIRIE WARBLER singing, but since I was not in good Prairie Warbler habitat, I hesitated. But sure enough, there was movement and it was a Prairie Warbler. Other birds that I got good looks at include: Louisiana Waterthrush Prothonotary Warbler Hooded Warbler Red-eyed Vireo White-eyed Vireo Summer Tanager Broad-winged Hawk Birds heard, but not seen: Kentucky Warbler Blue-winged Warbler Scarlet Tanager Most of the other suspects were present including lots of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
