Saturday morning when I arrived at Radnor Lake, I found several
E. TN area birders including David Trently. David had
already searched for a CONNECTICUT WARBLER and retraced part of
the Lake Trail with me and others before leaving. He did
find a CAPE MAY WARBLER for us, but still no CONNECTICUT.
Eventually 4 of us reached the bench just before Long Bridge
where after perhaps a 10-15 minute wait we heard a CONNECTICUT.
From 8:30 to 9 am several of us got brief but good looks at the
male. This area has been prime CONNECTICUT territory in past
years.
Despite very overcast conditions, Sunday morning I again went
to Radnor and made a fast search before going to church. I
arrived at 8 am and from the West Parking Lot walked the lake
trail to Long Bridge and spent about 20+ minutes there but
heard nothing. Retracing the path I stopped at a couple other
known CONNECTICUT haunts along the lake trail. Sure enough
about 9:10 am one sang briefly in thick cover next to the
trail, and then briefly popped out so that binoculars were
not needed. Coming from the West parking lot, this spot is
after the dam, about 30-40 yards past the observation deck
that overlooks the lake, and about 15 yards past a bench in a
relatively open area of the trail. A PALM WARBLER and a
CANADA WARBLER were also in the area.
