Today when the rain stopped and the skies cleared about noon in Nashville, I
went out to Radnor Lake to see what might be there. At the Long Bridge in the
adjacent brush just to the west, I heard a "jit" call and saw movement at waist
level in the vegetation. Then out popped a male Mourning Warbler in the
sunlight. He moved about for a minute or so at the edge before disappearing
into the brush.
Then about 10 minutes later, just east the spillway on the Lake Trail, a bird
flitted across the path from left to right landing in a tangle of dead bush
honeysuckle. I had been hearing a Carolina Wren and assumed that was the bird I
had just seen flying. However, I could not resist putting my binoculars on the
bird and, to my surprise, there was a Connecticut Warbler out in the open. The
bird then slowly walked back into the depths of the tangled dead wood and
disappeared.
Other warblers seen were Magnolia Warbler and Canada Warbler.
