I read with interest that many of our usual spots are absent of peurple
finches...Wilson County (Lebanon area) and my feeder in Bedford CO (Normandy )
all reported an unusually higher number of purple finches this year...I have at
least 8 pairs at my feeder as I write! Like the rest of you, we are always
eager for their presence and hope everyone can say these finches are around
next year. I personally have had very few house finches...
Still had gadwalls this last week and a male wood duck on a small pond this
morning...to top it all off, one of my former students saw his very first
red-headed woodpecker this past weekend & told me so today...such simple
pleasures that make me smile!
Brown Creeper gave us a wonderful show at Murfree Springs at the Discovery
Center boardwalk (Rutherford Co- Murfreesboro) this past Saturday before bird
club meeting...a pair of yellow rumps gave us also an excellent view. We had
22+ species in 30 minutes...pretty good, we thought!
