[TN-Bird] Philadelphia Vireo, Blackburnian Warbler (Greene Co., TN)

27 May 2003
Greeneville

While observing (well, actually listening to) a couple of Blackburnian
Warblers in a large stand of mature trees next to our yard this morning,
I chanced upon a silent Philadelphia Vireo feeding leisurely near the
top of a tree in an opening. This is by far my latest date for
Philadelphia Vireo, my few previous spring observations having occurred
on May 4-5. I watched the bird feeding and moving from tree to tree
intermittently for about ten minutes before losing it in a thick clump
of leaves.

When I checked my records for Blackburnian Warbler this evening, I also
discovered that today's date is four days later than the latest date I
had ever observed the species in spring in Greeneville.

Migration has seemed to be mostly finished in Greene County for the past
week or so, but a few birds keep trickling through . . . .
