3-29-06 Percy Priest Lake Davidson Co. Late yesterday afternoon, Richard Connors and I went to Percy Priest Lake to see if the Merlins were still at Anderson Rd. Recreation Area. They were not there, but with a sunny, calm day we had wonderful late afternoon light on several Common Loons, some in beautiful breeding plumage. One of them even gave us a few yodels. We also enjoyed close views of 14 Blue-winged Teal, with a not seen before mauve sheen glowing from the sides of their heads; beautiful! To top it off there was an adult Bald Eagle perched in a bare tree on the point just east of the Anderson Rd. trail. A few Bonaparte's and Ring-billed gulls were still around, one Horned Grebe, and a large line of Double-crested Cormorants flew by.
