Avoided the rain and spent the day (14 April) house cleaning.
Then got home from the Father-in-law's birthday dinner in time
to see an Osprey flying over the house as I pulled in the
drive. Only the second ever on the yard list.

Had a Prairie Warbler singing in the woods behind the house
on Thurs and Fri. Other than a handful of Myrtle Yellow-rumped
Warblers, that's the only warbler I've had in the yard
so far this spring. Had one Solitary Vireo on Good Friday.
Friday also brought back the first Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
since the cold. Had had one for 5 days starting 30 March.
Still no hummers despite having feeders up since early
March. Several Chipping Sparrows singing this morning.

I briefly looked through some of the lower trees on Thurs.
Found a few small caterpillars among the dead leaves. The
Hickories and Tuliptrees are already sprouting new leaves.
The Blackgums and oaks are still lifeless looking. The
new growth on our ornamental Boxwoods was killed and now
many of the leaves are falling off the rest of the bushes.
I noticed around town that even the new growth on American
Hollies was killed. We had frost again on Thursday morning
and now possibly snow in the forecast for tomorrow.

Global warming? Pfft. :-)
