For those that have not been following the progress of this year's =
Operation
Migration Whooping Crane flock, I just read that a tailwind has allowed =
them
to skip their last Kentucky stop and fly into Tennessee. No word on how =
far
they made it, but their first stop in TN is usually Cumberland County. =
After
that, it's on to Hiwassee. If you want to keep tabs on the group and see
when they might be flying into or departing from Hiwassee Wildlife =
Refuge
(Meigs Co.), you can go to
http://www.operationmigration.org/Field_Journal.html. Hiwassee provides =
the
best locations to see the project in action and to talk with the OM
personnel. Keep in mind that these flights are VERY weather dependent. =
They
may anticipate arriving or departing on a particular day, but even a =
little
bit of fog, headwind, or frost can keep them grounded. Nonetheless, it =
is
quite something to see, as anyone who has been out there can attest to!
