[tn-bird] On a happier note...

With all the tragedies of late (Swans, now the dumping
of geese in Memphis), I am happy to report that a pair
of Bluebirds have claimed a nest box in the
backyard-they did this about a month ago-and are now
SLOWLY bringing in bits and pieces of nesting
material. Mourning Doves are calling quite a bit in
the morning.
Are they trying to tell us spring is almost here?

I am quite surprised to hear of the shortage of Purple
Finches in other parts of the state. I've had about
20 males and females at feeders for 2 months now.
Only about 4 House Finches.

Wishing I had more time to bird,

Anna Varney
Lewis County, TN
