The New Jersey Maritime Fisheries Commission voted 5-4 yesterday to lift that state's 2 year moratorium on the harvesting of horseshoe crabs. This news was all the more devastating to me after watching Sunday's alarming Nature program on PBS. I recommend that anyone interested in this issue browse the Jerseybirds listserve for the discussion on the topic. The initial post on the subject Monday night is by someone who actually attended the meeting, Tony Croasdale. There is still hope that the governor or legislature may act to restore the ban.
