Yesterday, Sunday, at around noon at the greenway in Maryville, Blount
County, Tennessee, there were only a few birds on the water, a handful of
coots, maybe a dozen Mallards, and swimming with a pair of the Mallards was
a Northern Shoveler, a male I think. My Stokes guide says that Shovelers
only rarely "tip up" to feed, but this one was emulating his companions and
tipping up like a Mallard. They were in the general area of the big water
spout above the spillway.
