[TN-Bird] Northern Harrier in Maury County

01.23.03 and 01.24.03
Columbia
Maury County, TN

Yesterday and today I observed an adult male Northern Harrier coursing over a
field directly across from my workplace outside of Columbia near the crossroads
of U.S. 43 (A.K.A "The Bypass") and Oakland Parkway. On both occasions the
bird was seen between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. After working at the
same location for 4 years, this is the first time I have seen this specie here.

Fortunately, this field has been left undeveloped and is only cut about once
per year, so the growth is about 2 feet tall. There has been a Red-tail Hawk
claiming this area but has not been seen in two days. I have a fantastic view
of the field from my desk and so I can pay attention to what's going on while I
pretend to be in deep thought about some problem. Only once has one of my
employees walked into the office while I was looking through my binoculars
trying to figure out a sparrow. Good thing my boss is not at this location!

Good birding at work!
