Jumping in...I think both hunting and suburbanization can be blamed for Bob white decline but something else must be in the mix. I grew up near where I now live: Petersburg in Marshall county . As a child I enjoyed Bobwhite as a constant part of the background sound,I would flush a covey on nearly every trip to the barn. Now, (45 years later), I rarely see or hear ANY. I have lived on the same 200 acres farm for twenty-five years. There is no row cropping,no hunting,no cattle. It's basically a preserve, hardly a farm. There are no Bobwhite on this land. The decline stated around the time deer, turkey and coyotes moved or were moved in. Perhaps a coincidence. Some have said that the almost universal use of fescue instead of native grasses did the trick but...who knows. Maybe all the above. I know I miss them. John Sanders Petersburg,TN.
