Got a really late start - even for me - Saturday on the Norris Dam Songbird
Trail in Anderson County, Tenn. Almost 2 p.m. After walking 10-15 minutes I
was beginning to think I would have only 2 species to report - Goldfinches and
Bluejays. An enticing look at a sparrow perched overhead but couldn't ID it
from pink legs, white butt. About what I deserved at mid-day on a hot
afternoon. Things picked up considerably, however and I ended up seeing:
4 Magnolia Warblers total (in 3 different locations; one was an adult with the
black streaked sides and the others weren't)
at least 2 Swainson's Thrushes and a Gray Catbird going after the poke berries
high in a tree
A Blue-headed Vireo
a drab unmarked greenish warbler (maybe a Tennessee) that only gave me one
brief look. It was low in the shrubs with two of the Magnolias
Eastern Wood Pewee
2 Eastern Phoebes
22 species in all
