Eagle Lake, Shelby Co.
River Road, Tipton Co.
Hatchie NWR, Haywood Co. TN

I went back early this AM to see if the Swainson's Hawk had stayed around
but no such luck. Shorebirds were still in good numbers but the hawks and
kites had them spending more time in the air than feeding. Saturday at Eagle
Lake, I had my first of season Mississippi Kite, today there were 2 and on
the Mississippi River in Tipton Co, I located 23 in one feeding frenzy.
Along Coon Valley Road, just as it hits the river, I heard a bright song that
I searched for and sitting out in a huge plowed field with no vegetation
sand a wonderful Lark Sparrow.

Late in the day, Joe Guinn and I decided to take a turn around O'Neal Lake
at the Hatchie NWR in Haywood Co, and found a few scattered shorebirds.
Just about to call it quits when we ran up on 4 cormorants sitting out in the
middle of the lake. I told Joe one looked good for Neotropic, a bird that I
had not seen lately in the state. Sure enough scope views nailed the ID.
That makes 4 great birds this weekend, TLBA strikes again ;o)
