Percy Priest lake, Nashville TN
Nov. 26
Sandhill Cranes 3
Common Loons 150 +
Hooded Mergansers 7
Post Thanksgiving walk on Volunteer Day Loop Trail, Long Hunter State Park.
The three cranes flew over straight and silent heading in a southwesterly
direction.
The loons were seen from a bluff with a good view of the west part of the
lake. We can count even more loons than this on our day-long Christmas count,
comming up a month or so from now, but this is a lot to be seen from one spot.
Birds were spread out singly and there were several rafts of 25- 50 birds. Boat
traffic, which can spread out the birds, was unusually low for such a balmy
day.
The hoodies were in their usual winter spot on Couchville lake, in Long
Hunter park.
