[TN-Bird] NW GA-27Mar09

Jim,
Please forward to GABO for me, as I am not a subscriber.

Spurred on by Jim Flynn's post from yesterday, and thinking if the rains did
come, which they did, I could at least see the two tundra swans.? Had them
about 9am at the previously described spot on GA 157 within about 1-1.5 miles
north of the Walker-Chattooga county line.? Had no luck with the yellowlegs Jim
described, but did have 3 wild turkeys just north of the pond where the swans
were.? A check of Queen City Lake was a dud, with 3 male Mallards, 1 PB grebe,
and no swallows!? What a difference a day and rain make.? Missed the loggerhead
shrike on Hog Jowl Road in Walker Co, but did pick up 3 pine siskins at a
feeder there.? Also, had a Northern rough-winged swallow in a field by a silo
on Andrews Lane, just off Hog Jowl Road, and when I stopped to put the bins on
the swallow, about 20 Wilson's snipe flushed from the wet field.? Finally,
taking Hwy 341 back to Chickamauga produced purple martins.? Several new GA
year birds and 5 new Walker Co birds put me over the 100 mark
 .
