Radnor Lake State Natural Area Nashville-Davidson Co. TN Wednesday 21 April 2010 We had a nice turn out again this Wednesday of roughly 20 birders including visitors from upstate New York, Indiana, and South Carolina for the NTOS-sponsored Radnor Lake Walk. We observed large numbers of Blue Jays at high altitudes flying north in groups of 5-10 at a time. Although we totaled 6 warbler species, with the exception of Yellow-rumped Warblers, they remained unseen including two different Blue-winged Warblers that sang close-by, but remained out of view. Even a singing Prothonotary Warbler remained elusive. A Great Blue Heron flew just a few feet overhead, settled into a thin tree branch, which wobbled considerably under his weight, causing him to rise up and fly off to find a more secure spot. We will meet again next Wednesday, 28 April at 7:30am in the West Parking lot. All are welcome.
