Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Nashville-Davidson County, TN
Wednesday 13 May 2009
The Mourning started in the parking lot and ended in the parking lot. No,
that's not a typo-it's a Mourning Warbler! As we gathered in the West
Parking Lot at Radnor Lake, the Wednesday NTOS group got killer looks at a
singing MOURNING WARBLER. This bird performed for us, just to make sure
everyone got a good look at him, hopping up and singing, flying right and
then left again, remaining much of the time out in the open and at eye
level. We saw another Mourning Warbler down by the Long Bridge and then once
we had circled the lake and returned to our starting point, a few of us
heard and saw the Mourning Warbler again as he had not gotten any more
reticent about being noted.
For a windy, mostly cloudy day, we had a pretty fine outing with 13 warbler
species. A female BLACKPOLL WARBLER jumped about a bit at the Long Bridge
and reminded us that she, too, is heading north despite not singing. And an
adult BALD EAGLE sat perched in a dead tree across the water.
Here's the breakdown on what we observed:
