Birders from Nashville, Clarksville, Memphis and
California enjoyed a weekend of birding in Memphis.
The hot conditions were the only damper, but
Shorebirds, Raptors, Terns and hybrid flycatchers were
well appreciated.
Much thanks to Jeff Wilson and Mike Todd for
guiding/educating. Their help was invaluable to the
success of the weekend.
Highlights included Little Blue Heron and Snowy Egrets
on Hwy 51 north of Memphis, Yellow-crowned
Night-Heron, dark-morph Broad-winged Hawk on Riverport
Road, Mississippi Kites, Black-necked Stilts, Caspian,
Black and Least Terns off Mud Island, and at the pits,
several thousand Pectoral Sandpipers, hundreds of
Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Stilt Sandpipers,
Semipalmated Plover, Solitary Sandpipers, and Least
Yellowlegs.
