Warner Park Nashville-Davidson Co., TN 28 April 2008 - Eleven members of Nashville TOS met this morning for a two-part outing at Edwin Warner Park in Nashville. From 7:00am-8:30am we birded the trails and road behind the Nature Center on Highway 100. These 90 minutes resulted in 39 species. Highlights were seven BALTIMORE ORIOLES, six males and one female feeding on a tree covered with tent caterpillars. The sun was just up enough to bathe the tree in light that caught the birds at their best. At 8:30 the original group met two additional NTOS members and others for an outing on the North Reserve, led by Ed Gleaves for Warner Parks. This newest addition to the over 2500 acres of existing Warner Parks property is not yet open to the public, so it was a real treat to scout it out. We had 33 species for this portion of the outing. A highlight was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK that continually harassed a TURKEY VULTURE causing the latter to dive and careen over and over again. Here is what we saw on combined walks: 54 species total including: Canada Goose 3 Black Vulture 3 Turkey Vulture 1 Red-tailed Hawk 2 Mourning Dove 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker 5 Downy Woodpecker 2 Hairy Woodpecker 1 Eastern Wood-Pewee 1 Eastern Phoebe 1 Great-crested Flycatcher 2 Eastern Kingbird 1 White-eyed Vireo 2 Red-eyed Vireo 1 Blue Jay 18 American Crow 1 Barn Swallow 2 Carolina Chickadee 6 Tufted Titmouse 5 White-breasted Nuthatch 1 Carolina Wren 1 House Wren 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 6 Eastern Bluebird 3 Swainson's Thrush 1 Wood Thrush 2 Gray Catbird 2 Northern Mockingbird 4 Brown Thrasher 1 European Starling 10 Blue-winged Warbler 2 Nashville Warbler 2 Northern Parula 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 Blackpoll Warbler 1 Black-and-white Warbler 1 American Redstart 1 Louisiana Waterthrush 2 Kentucky Warbler 5 Common Yellowthroat 4 Hooded Warbler 1 Summer Tanager 4 Scarlet Tanager 1 Eastern Towhee 6 Field Sparrow 10 White-throated Sparrow 1 Northern Cardinal 15 Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1 Indigo Bunting 6 Common Grackle 1 Brown-headed Cowbird 1 Baltimore Oriole 7 American Goldfinch 10 Kevin Bowden Nashville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
