[TN-Bird] NTOS Bells Bend field trip results

5-16-09
Bells Bend Park
Davidson Co.

After waiting out most of the rain, our morning of birding at Bells Bend
Park turned beautiful. The sounds were just as memorable as the sights as
we constantly heard the unmistakable calls of many Northern Bobwhites,
Prairie Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-breasted Chats, Field Sparrows,
Indigo Buntings, and Orchard Orioles. Two Connecticut Warblers were also
heard, but they were too far away for viewing. At least three Henslow's
Sparrows called, and one perched in the open just 20 feet away until everybody
got their fill. We left it still posing. One Lincoln's Sparrow and one
Swamp Sparrow were still reluctant to leave for the north. Unfortunately the
Blue Grosbeaks often seen there eluded us. Several rabbits and a huge
skink sticking out of a hole in a tree were also seen. Thank you to Tony
Lance who led our group this morning.
