[TN-Bird] NEW over-the-yard bird

Greetings from the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville just a few blocks
east of the Cleece's Ferry boat ramp on the Cumberland River.
Such a thrill it was this morning at 6:25 AM when, as I opened the door to
the deck to let my poodles out, I heard a familiar "rattle" from above and
looked up to see a lone belted kingfisher flying high above "rattling" all the
way.
It was headed toward the river and probably intersected over there near the
end of River Rouge Avenue. I don't know why, but I just always kind of
thought that belted kingfishers didn't often leave their own little sections of
waterway, so was really surprised by this fly over. I guess the idea comes
from
way back in time when birders would say to go to a certain place because the
"kingfisher is always there" whether it be belted, green or ringed. For
instance, I found the ringed fishing from Falcon Dam right where I was told,
then the
green was in its own tree just exactly where it was "supposed to be." Of
course, when I revert back to the "birds have wings, and they fly" philosophy,
I
realize that any species can be found almost anywhere from time to time.

The belted was a grand surprise, and that makes species number 70 that I have
remembered to list after sighting at my semi-urban yard here in Charlotte
Park. Not bad, considering that I don't have waterfront, although living
somewhat near the river has obviously helped.

Cheers & prayers for fruitful birding,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
