[TN-Bird] Re: N. Saw-whet Owl roosting height?

Jan,
On Assateague Island in Maryland, they are known to roost in the only
trees around, which are generally 20 feet tall or less. Whether that
translates to roosting low around here, I don't know.
I heard one in Cades Cove 3 winters ago, coming from a group of
trees, the tallest of which was about 25 feet. I saw one on Tremont
Road that same winter, about 15 feet off the ground, but that one was
hunting. Others I've seen have all been in nets, so those don't
count either!
