[TN-Bird] Muscovy, taking over?

Yesterday (Sunday, 30 Oct 2005) I stopped by the pond at
the Pellissippi State campus in west Knox Co., TN, to
look for early geese. Instead, I found a mother Muscovy
Duck with 13 (yes, 13!) fully-feathered, half-grown
young of various coloration in tow. Three Muscovy
showed up at this pond a couple of years ago and I've
seen two of them most every visit since.

This is certainly not the first successful breeding of
Muscovy I've noticed but it is the largest number of
young I've seen. Usually just one or two.

Free-flying Muscovy are showing up all around the area,
along, no doubt, with more being introduced. I counted
9 during my route on the Knoxville CBC last year. Still
not up there with Mallard Mutts or Canada Geese but they
are definitely having success breeding and bare watching.
