Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co.
Nashville, TN
Jan Shaw, Elizabeth O'Connor, and several holdovers from the NTOS
Wed. walk program birded along with me this Wed. morning, Oct. 22,
at Radnor Lake. We found the immature female MOURNING WARBLER
silently foraging on the spillway side of the dam, next to the
ranger residence around 8 am. Some 90 minutes later it was heard
chipping and again seen in the same general area. This warbler
apparently has called Nashville home for 7 days.
We also got to see a BARRED OWL being dive bombed by a BLUE JAY,
most interesting.
Aside from several species of warblers, there were not too many
migrants of interest, unless you count, dozens of AM. ROBINs and
COMMON GRACKLEs as well as ever increasing numbers of WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWs .
Warblers:
Tennessee 6
Nashville 2
Magnolia 3
Yellow-rumped 40
Black-throated Green 6
Mourning 1 im. female
Other species of note:
Pied-billed Grebe 1
Gadwall 2
Red-shouldered Hawk 1 calling
E. Phoebe 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6
Song Sparrow 1
