I met Terry Witt at the pits Friday afternoon and we went back and forth
trying to get him a better look at the duck. In between, we toured the pits and
took a look at the wind bird collection. We had 5 Baird's Sandpipers that were
real eye candy in the afternoon sun plus some nice views of Western and
Semipalmated immatures and finally quite a few long awaited immature Pectoral
Sandpipers the first real group of this year. About 15 species were present
with a
growing mass of Least Sandpipers. The Buff-breasted was a no show.
The Mottled finally put on a good show when it dropped in with a group of
Mallards at 7:15. The duck could be immediately picked up in flight and after
landing proceeded to preen and show us details in the fading light.
Good Birding!!!
