The best way (in my opinion) to learn bird songs is to spend time in the
field and track down birds singing songs you don't recognize.

Having said that, I spend a lot of time like Jack Black's character in
"The Big Year", listening to bird songs on my phone at work... and get
much the same response he did.

A lot of the bird song collections spend limited time on song variations
and call notes. Cornell many years ago put out a collection just of
warblers with many examples of A and B songs, variations, and call notes.
It was hard/impossible to find for a long time but is now available
electronically (MP3 download) from Cornell's MacCaulay Library website
for $14.99...

http://macaulaylibrary.org/guides

Most species have 4-6 tracks of song examples plus a track just of call
notes. It also includes rarities like Fan-tailed Warbler, Golden-crowned
Warbler, etc.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help with my biggest problem area... vireos.
Red-eyed, Philadelphia, Blue-headed, Yellow-throated, Black-whiskered,
Cassin's, Plumbeous, Gray... those stupid things all sound alike to me.
