[tn-bird] Mississippi River

Mississippi River
Shelby Co. TN

Could not stay out of the rain today so I went by Mud Island and found: 2
Caspian Terns, 3 Ring-billed Gulls all adults, 6 Forster's Terns and 2 Common
Terns, adult and immature.

The gray sky reflected in the usually muddy Mississippi and where they met up
river it was one continuous blend with the rain, the sky, and the river
running together in blended shades of gray. Hundreds upon hundreds of Tree
Swallows with a few Rough-winged, Barn and Cliff mixed in, skimmed just
inches above the water; smoothly, circling and twisting like the skaters at
Rockefeller Center. Almost as a reflection, above were equal numbers of
Chimney Swifts swirling at all levels. Even in the rain these birds were
incessantly feeding. It was made a crisp, happy gray by all the avian
activity.

Good Birding!!!
