Sunday, I sat in a whirling mass of Mississippi Kites; they were swooping
down to my level and feeding on a horde of dragonflies. At one time, I came up
with a loose count of over 60 birds feeding around my truck, such a joy and
wonderfully rewarding experience.
When I'm in the field, a lot of depth and enjoyment is added to my
experience by not just marking down a species but adding, juvenile, subadult,
basic,
alternate, transitional, migrating, adult etc. etc. to the name. I've put
together a quick and dirty web page with a few good to poor ventral photos
showing juvenile, subadult and adult plumaged Mississippi Kites, a true Wind
Master. Corrections welcomed.......Try:
