Mission Hill Shelby Park Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Friday 19 August 2005 85 degrees Spent about an hour this morning birding Mission Hill on the edge of Shelby Park with Phillip Casteel. By 8:30 am when I left I was sweating from just walking the short trail around the hill. Conditions were certainly muggy. Looking for early migrants we hoped to find OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERs. They come through in August and use the perches on the hill. While the OLIVE-SIDED was a no show, we got a nice substitute. Birds of note were still few in number but we did get a nice substitute for our missed flycatcher, a motley looking CERULEAN WARBLER that was at eye level instead of a couple hundred feet up in the trees. Other birds of interest included: Acadian Flycatcher White-eyed Vireo Blue-winged Warbler Yellow Warbler It sure would be nice in more ways than one to get a cold front to push through the area. -- Frank Fekel Tennessee State University Center of Excellence in Information Systems 3500 John A.
