Well, the rain passing through put a kick in the migration, 10 species of
Wind Birds were present today at the "Pits" and 8 were migrants. The migrant
numbers topped 100 for the first time, giving a jump start to the fall
season. Besides the resident breeders, Black-necked Stilts and Killdeer, also
present today were: 1-Semipalmated Plover, 3- Solitary Sandpiper, 3 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 8-Semipalmated Sandpiper, 4- Western Sandpiper, 91- Least
Sandpiper, 4- Pectoral Sandpiper and 2- Short-billed Dowitcher. I never saw the
Spotted Sandpiper over the weekend.
A single Forster's Tern rested on one of the sand spits just peaking out
from the muddy Mississippi while Least Terns are trading about carrying
minnow gifts for their lady loves.
Good Birding !!!
