[TN-Bird] Migrant warblers finally

In the last three days (Sep 12-14, 2007) we have finally gotten some
influx of warbler migrants here in western Lewis County. I've had 9
species on the farm over the last three mornings, including seasonal
firsts for Golden-winged (9/14), Tennessee (9/12), Chestnut-sided
(9/13), Magnolia (9/12), and Mourning (9/13) Warblers. The Mourning
was a good learning exercise; it was a very drab young bird, a
plumage I've had little experience with having spent most of my life
either too far east or too far west to come across them regularly.
Still no Rose-breasted Grosbeaks or vireos other than the three
species that nest here, and last year's mini-invasion of Olive-sided
Flycatchers hasn't rematerialized yet.

On a non-bird, but still nature related note: I'd like to put in a
plug for CoCoRaHS, the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow
Network. CoCoRaHS is a network of thousands of volunteers across the
country who report daily precipitation measurements, helping to fill
in the huge gaps between the regular NWS measuring stations. All it
takes to join is $29 to buy the rain gauge, and a brief online
training. You just read your gauge in the morning and report the
numbers online; you don't even need to be home every day as they have
provisions for reporting multiple day accumulations for the times you
are away from home. You can find all you need to know at:

http://www.cocorahs.org/

If you check the maps for Tennessee, I'm that lonely dot close to the
west edge of Lewis County.
