After what I went through today at work I knew I couldn't go tomorrow so I
got off early and did some birding at the TVA Ponds and the Pits. Temp mid
80's some cloud cover and a slight breeze(kept the fly's moving).
98% of the birds were on the big pond in the back.
245pm-3pm TVA PONDS
Great Egrets-7, Grt Blue Heron-1, DC Cormorants-8, MoDoves-12, PB Grebe-2,
Turk Vultures-5.
3pm-4:45pm The Pits 1000-1200 birds total in scattered flocks.
Solitary Sandpiper-1, Pectoral Sandpiper-a lot, Semipalmated Sandpiper-
100's, Least Sandpiper-100's,Killdeer-80-90(numbers down from last week,
MoDoves -100+, Mockingbirds-10, Starlings-150+, Lesser Yellowlegs-80+ (large
flock of 60+ in the big pond far back corner where the water is deeper some
cover, grass beds and the down timber. These birds were resting/sleeping no
foraging, They scattered several times from the presence of a Perigrine and
two Redtail Hawks who thought it was neat to scatter every bird on the pond.
Was interesting seeing the birds scatter and return right back where they
started from. When I was leaving several small mixed flocks were coming in.
Total of 5 Redtails seen over the bottoms plus the Perigrine.
4:45-5pm Riverport Road
Grt Egrets-4, Grt Blue Heron-2, Green Heron-1, Modos-25+.
Total species today: 17
