I've been out of the area most of the day. The Whooping cranes did not leave Hiwassee Refuge in Meigs County Tuesday 11-19 because of early morning rain and fog. I do suspect they will leave Wednesday morning once the fog burns off. If you didn't read the report by Heather Ray of Operation Migration on 11/19 you are in for a surprise! Most of us were aware that crane # 6, a male, from the Class of 2001 has started it's migration. Hundreds of people were on hand this past week-end at Jasker-Pulaski fish and wildlife area in Indiana to observe this bird. Now for the surprise: Lara Fondow a tracker for ICF has received a radio signal for # 6. He is now in MEIGS COUNTY, TENNESSEE. Heather reports he is only a stones throw away from where she and the team are being held up by weather. If you go to Hiwassee Wednesday morning keep your eyes and ears open. You just might see one more crane than you expected!
