I got a late start on my Western Greene Co. swing Memorial Day, but from
1815to 2030 I was able to record 50 species. I started off rt. 340, on
MasonLodge rd. and worked my way back to the Lick Creek WMR on So. Mohawk
Rd.and Buelah off Rt. 348. Here are the highlights;
Broad-winged hawk, Wood Duck (6), Wild turkey (2), N. bobwhite (5), Cedar
waxwing (2),wood thrush, Summer tanager, Yellow-breasted chat (5), Prairie
warbler (2), Blue groesbeak (3), Dicksissel (2) males singing at the
S.MohawkWMA. I was not able to locate the Willow flycatcher that had been
atBuelah in previous years, it may be a little early.
Today, I made a swing threw Tom White Hollow and Dyer Hollow Rds. I was
ableto add an additional 9 species. I heard 5 ovenbirds singing, Scarlet
Tanager, White-breasted nuthatch, and heard another Prairie warbler (TWH
rd.), wood thrush, and saw 3 more wild turkey. I did miss the Hairy
Woodpecker, but over all was happy with the findings.
